The Volkswagen Golf is the quintessential German car – practical, well-engineered and conservatively styled – but right-hand-drive versions of the car are currently sourced from a plant in Uitenhage on South Africa’s southern coast. For the next-generation Mark V1 model, VW will build all versions of the car, both left and right-hand-drive models at its hometown plant in Wolfsburg, Germany. To fill the gap at Uitenhage, VW will increase production of the in-demand Jetta sedan.
