Several high-ranking executives from Alfa Romeo were keen to see how the launch of the new MiTo materialized. While they were there, we had the chance to talk with one of Alfa's top marketing officers over dinner and discuss the latest news churned out of the rumormill concerning upcoming products from Alfa and its sister-brand Abarth.

Let's take a quick vote here. We won't be tabulating the totals, so we'll keep this unofficial, but we want you to be honest. How many of you, deep inside, wonder if you couldn't have made it as a professional racing driver? Maybe not the next Michael Schumacher, but at least a promising prospect.

If you own an Italian masterpiece adorned with a prancing horse, your good fortune is likely tempered with a few mechanical or electrical maladies. If and when that happens, most of us would expect an expensive loaner to take our minds off of our troubles, but team Ferrari has a "better idea." Fiat has created 200 special edition 500s that are done up to Ferrari standards, including red paint, a top notch sound system, electric sunroof, automatic climate control, a black steering wheel with red stitching and 16-inch aluminum wheels.

European reviews of Alfa Romeo's mid-range line-up invariably yield the same conclusion: the Brera, Spider and 159 are impossibly beautiful (take our word for it if you haven't seen one in the flesh), but the performance just isn't there. That's where Autodelta comes in. The British tuning house specializes in dialing up the performance quotient on Alfas, and after pumping up the Brera and Spider with its top-of-the-line J-series packages, Autodelta has turned its attention to the 159 sedan.

Any day in which we bring you news of a new Italian sports car is a good day by any account. Today we bring you news of three new sports cars under development under the Fiat group umbrella, which we needn't point out controls most of the Italian automotive industry, including Fiat, Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Maserati and Ferrari.

Though Alfa Romeo unveiled the Mi.To back in March, we've only had a few images at which to stare in disbelief over how there's a part of the world that produces small cars this beautiful. Not so anymore, as Alfa has released over 40 new high-res images of the Mi.To today. Named after the place in which it was designed (Milan) and the place in which it will be built (Turin), the Mi.To is basically a Fiat Grande Punto wrapped in a skin that was inspired by the luscious 8C Competizione.

Alfa Romeo is preparing itself to become a global player. The automaker will make its return to the U.S. in the next couple of months. Being sold through Maserati dealerships, Alfa will initially launch in the U.S. with the 159, Brera, Brera Spider and the Alfa image enhancer, 8C Competizione.

It’s a match that could have been made in heaven! Italian manufacturer Alfa Romeo has joined forces with British motorsport specialist Prodrive to produce a thrilling new version of the Brera, badged simply Brera S.
Touted as a performance flagship, the model will be targeted at the likes of the Porsche Cayman S, and aims to answer criticism of the coupé’s nose-heavy handling and choppy ride.

When I was a little kid I wanted to be like my big brother. I would dress the same as him, go to the same places as him, do the same things as him... It never really worked because, at the end of the day, I never looked anything like him. So while I doubt I was the only one, I had one eyebrow raised when Alfa Romeo set out to mimic the design of its show-stoppin', range-toppin' 8C Competizione with a new entry-level model.

We've already seen the first official shots of the new MiTo, but that doesn't mean the testing is over. Our spies caught this barely disguised version undergoing final development tweaks at the famous Nurburgring circuit in Germany. Even with the black tape covering the bodywork it is easy to see the influence of the company's 8C Competitzione supercar. At the front is the same bold grille and oval headlamps, while at the rear it gets circular LED lamps.

At Geneva Motor Show earlier this month Alfa Romeo introduced their new mini-car, the Mi.To. Now they've released a cool video showing that just because a car is small and economical, it doesn't mean that fun has to be left behind. Back in my former life before I started writing full-time, I was a controls engineer developing software for ABS, traction and stability control systems. That required spending many winter weeks and months in snowy northern climes like Sault Ste. Marie and Arvidsjaur, Sweden.

It's all change at Alfa. The Italian brand has revamped its range for 2008 – and first up is the Spider (above), which now comes in an Ice White finish. There are new, lightweight 18-inch alloys, while the drop-top’s upgraded cabin gets more supportive seats. The tin-top Brera benefits from the same changes. Also revamped is the 159, with new wheels and aluminium brake calipers shaving 45kg off the weight, and sharpening up performance across the range. A Q2 electronic differential is now fitted on all front-wheel-drive Brera, Spider and 159 models.
