CAR LAUNCHES are usually accompanied by much fanfare and pomp – posh hotels, lavish meals, glorious test routes and a range of immaculately presented cars to choose from. The BMW Sauber team expects to have its definitive 'double decker' diffuser in place by the Turkish Grand Prix early next month, and has said that it will reintroduce its troubled KERS technology at the same time in an effort to improve in the second half of the season. The Munich/Hinwil operation has registered a measly six points in the opening five races of 2009 - all courtesy of the much-maligned Nick Heidfeld - and has frequently struggled to make an impact in qualifying, leading to problems on raceday.

BMW team boss Mario Theissen said he was not surprised that both Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica got caught up in first lap collisions at the Bahrain Grand Prix, as he knew the squad's lack of pace at Sakhir left it vulnerable to midfield carnage. The duo started 13th and 14th, and finished 18th and 19th - the last of the runners - after being unable to recover the ground lost when they pitted for new wings at the start.

BMW has confirmed that it’s first ever M series SUV’s are going to be launched in the Middle East in October 2009. The first ever all-wheel-drive BMW M vehicles, the X5 M and X6 M also feature BMW’s most powerful engines seen in a production vehicle yet. BMW has give both the SUV’s the M treatment which includes immense power, dynamic handling and control for maximum street performance. On the flip side, the M badge SUV’s have lost their off-road credibility and are lower than the standard vehicles too. Since most buyers would not venture off the tarmac, these beasts make for spirited urban commuting.

The Q7 gets a redesigned front end with a larger, single-frame grille, a new underbody protector and wider door sills, while spangly new LED strips adorn the rear. It's still going to scare the bejesus out of small children, mind.
