The 250 GT California Spyder is one of Ferrari's most celebrated (and valuable) models, most often remembered by the general public for its starring role in the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off. This year marked the Spyder's 50th anniversary, and the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance celebrated the occasion by giving the car its very own class.

A group of performance car nuts who also happen to be some of the richest people in North America are backing a new private race track located 90 miles northwest of Manhattan, New York. Among the group is James Glickenhaus, the owner of the $4 million Ferrari P4/5 (pictured), comedian and actor Jerry Seinfeld, race car driver Jeff Gordon, and a number of investment firm bosses.

The designs that Yanko's got on its website are from a past Ferrari design competition, thanks to all the sharp eyed readers who caught it.
As we reported not too long ago, Ferrari is not stupid, and if you've got the obscene cashflow, you can get your own design rendered in Rosso Corsa with a gen-yoo-wine Prancing Horse on the fender. Trouble is, not everyone has a shelf full of sketchbooks with multitudinous supercar designs lying in wait.

With the introduction of Ferrari’s new California model, the Maranello company is planning to celebrate by showing off some of the new car’s genetic predecessors, including the prototype that started it all at the Pebble Beach Concours this August. The range of California’s spans half a century and includes some of the most iconic designs of all time. The gathering at Pebble Beach will mark the first time six variations of the California line have been gathered in one place.

We've said it before, but it warrants repeating: it takes a special kind of crazy to take an epic supercar like a Ferrari or a Lamborghini and tune it like you would a Mustang or even a Porsche. Fortunately, Novitec and EDO are just such a breed of crazy. We've brought you news of the former's modified Ferrari 430 Scuderias and 599 GTBs and the latter's Lamborghini Superleggera, Maserati MC12 and Audi R8 (to name just a few), but never side by side.

There are revivals, and then there are revivals. Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera got it right by making a big splash at Villa d'Este when it showed up with not one, but two custom coachbuilt Maseratis: the sumptuous A8GCS Berlinetta and the innovative Quattroporte Bellagio Fastback. Talk about hitting the ground running.

If you're on Ferrari's mailing list for the new California, you might have seen a new email in your inbox today with a link to another chapter (literally) opening up on the vehicle's dedicated website. Today's installment leads to a video of the California's trick folding hard-top – another first for Ferrari (if you don't count the innovative one-piece mechanism designed by Fioravanti for the limited-production 575-based Superamerica).

For the unveiling of its first front-engined V8 sportscar, Ferrari rolled out a dedicated launch site. But up until now, the site (as well as the company's media portal) only gave us a glimpse at a handful of studio shots. Germany's AutoBild, meanwhile, managed to obtain a handful of new shots of the California out in the open, inside and out and front to back. Natural sunlight seems to soften the sportscar's lines a fair deal... but don't take our word for it: Check out the images in the gallery below to see for yourself.

Those car enthusiast fathers fortunate enough to live in Southern California know that Father's Day means more than just a new necktie; it also marks the annual Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance in the ritzy city of Beverly Hills. With what is likely one of the highest income per capita rankings of any city in the U.S. (let alone the world) the show consistently draws some of the world's premier classic and modern automobiles -- most of which are owned locally. You might think such a prestigious show in such an exclusive locale would be prohibitively expensive to attend. Think again. Each and every year, the Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance is open to the public and is completely free.

German tuning alchemists NoviTec Rosso have joined forces with custom chopper builder Walz Hardcore Cycles to produce this, a Ferrari F430 with pinstriping, a 707bhp twin supercharged engine and a chalkboard black paintjob. Inspired by a conversation between NoviTec boss Wolfgang Hagedorn and chopper builder Marcus Walz, the F430 TuNero is, to quote Spinal Tap, 'none more black'. It has matt black bodywork, black calipers, black interior and black seats.

When the Ferrari California made its official debut earlier this month we were given a few details and about three pictures to drool over. Today Ferrari released a more detailed press release with some new pictures of the Ferrari California (some with the top closed). President Luca Di Montezemolo recently got behind the wheel of the California, taking several laps at the company’s Fiorano circuit. Of course he had nothing but good things to say about his company’s latest toy.

We like our jobs here at Autoblog, and we hope that shows. Most of our time is spent in our homes and offices bringing you the latest car news as it comes out, and a few times a year we get to fly around the country and around the world photographing the newest machinery the industry has to offer. It's easy to bring you good photos when the subjects are so artfully beautiful, but while some of us know where to point the glassy end of a camera, our photographs won't be hanging in the Louvre. That's where ordinary people and acclaimed artists like Franco Fontana depart.

While we wait to see more pictures of the Ferrari California in other colors and eagerly wait for video of the car in action, PigMag.com has done some photoshop work to calm us down.
