After a 2-1 victory over South Brunswick High School over the weekend, the Edison High School softball team improved to 9-6 on the season. The two teams are slated for a May 18 rematch. Freshman pitcher Valerie Cassell recorded her sixth win of the season. She threw all seven innings and allowed just two hits and a pair of walks, and struck out 11 South Brunswick batters. "She's been great," Edison head coach Jennifer Tessenhart said. "She's a true competitor and a very confident pitcher. She's also our No. 4 hitter and she's been having a great year at the plate."

This is the Tornado 750, a work of such vile monstrosity from German tuning house Gemballa that we're not quite sure whether to feel sorry for it or smash it repeatedly with big sticks until we're certain it's dead. Based, as you might have guessed, on the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, the Tornado 750 gets lots more power and lots less weight - usually a formula we approve of, but in this case we'll make an exception. 750bhp of power, to be exact, thanks to a bored-out version of the Cayenne's 4.8-litre V8 armed with a race-spec turbocharger.

Paparazzi asked celebrity Paris Hilton about going "green" (see video below) and buying her new hybrid Yukon. Mrs. Hilton says "everyone" should buy a hybrid. Why? They are "awesome!" She even brags she has "the first one." What might Mrs. Hilton mean by saying she has the first hybrid, a type of vehicle that's been on sale for many years and is actually quite popular?

In a posting comparing the GMC Yukon Denali with the GMC Acadia, Karl Brauer says, "The emphasis on 'really' comes from a phenomenon I think we're all aware of -- perceived versus actual vehicle needs." Brauer goes on to suggest making a self-examination of sorts to find out if you truly require the added capability of a larger, more powerful SUV over something a bit more rational, like one of the "crossover" vehicles flooding the market these days. In fact, Brauer suggests that a typical sedan or wagon would likely work fine for 95 percent of most people's daily needs and the money saved when purchasing this type of vehicle would allow the purchaser freedom to rent the larger vehicle they may need the other 5 percent or so of the time.

GMC doesn't do concepts very often but their latest example was unveiled here at the Chicago Auto Show. The new Denali XT concept is primarily a styling exercise but it also highlights a lot of ideas for the future of the truck market. As new fuel economy regulations kick in the coming years, trucks will have to get smaller and lighter and a car based truck like this will likely become a viable option for drivers who chose pickups for personal use rather than as a work truck.

Even with the growing ranks of hybrids on the road, all so far all the production models relay solely on gasoline for fuel. In mid-2007, Ford began testing Escape hybrids with E85 flex-fuel capability. Now General Motors is following suit with their latest concept that will debut this week at the Chicago Auto Show. The new GMC Denali XT concept brings together several technologies in a body style familiar to Australians and fans of the old Chevy El Camino.

General Motors (GM) says it is determined to force fuel-cell vehicles past the chicken-or-the-egg stage, where they have been stuck for decades, with a goal of a small but commercially viable fuel-cell fleet by around 2015. Fuel cells run on hydrogen, producing electricity to run an electric motor. The only emission is pure water. But which comes first? Fuel-cell vehicles or the infrastructure to keep fuel-cell vehicles supplied with hydrogen fuel?

In the next 24 months, General Motors (GM), Chrysler, Daimler (DAI) and BMW (BMWG) will collectively bring out at least nine hybrid trucks and sport-utility vehicles, including the Chevrolet Tahoe and Chrysler's Aspen and Dodge Durango, which are being unveiled this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show. But for the conditions of a joint technology agreement among the companies, each vehicle might have a badge on its side-panel that says "GM Inside."
