When Jaguar launched the current-generation XK in all its feline ferocity, it reportedly promised that the car would only be offered with gasoline engines. But that was a couple of years ago, around the same time that Audi began to dominate Le Mans racing with its R10 TDI, when BMW put the 3-liter turbodiesel into the 6 Series, but more importantly, before the current fuel crunch made consumers reexamine the prospect of driving a diesel sportscar.

For Jaguar to truly stay alive under its new India owners, Tata, it needs to revitalise its entire range and the large XJ sedan, rooted in the past, needs a complete make over. That’s just what is coming and these photographs by our spy photographers show a mule testing the car that will radically replace the currently very staid Jaguar XJ sometime in 2009.

Even as the company changed hands from Ford to Tata Motors, Jaguar dealers delivered on their promise of top-notch customer service, topping J.D. Power’s Customer Service Index Study rankings - for the second year in a row. The new XF’s debut no doubt helped it secure a high finish in the recent APEAL rankings, but this award is all about the service experience offered by the company’s dealerships across the country.

The original Jaguar XK120 was an impressive car for its time. Introduced at the 1948 London Motor Show, it wooed onlookers with its sleek design and a 3.4-liter straight-six developing 160 horsepower. It's 120 mph top speed made it the world's fastest production car at the time and over the years, other XK's followed the original's footsteps -- the XK140 in 1955 and the XK150 in 1958 -- both named for their top speed capabilities.

Jaguar’s restyled version of the slow-selling sedan. In this chapter, long-running Brit traditions are tossed in the dustbin and replaced with a design inspired by the company’s new style indicator, the XF.
Sales in the U.S. are circling the loo. Now that Indian conglomerate Tata owns Jag, the company will need fresh models to spice up the brand.

If you have a passion for Tata-owned British luxury vehicles and you're willing to move to central England, then Jaguar/Land Rover may have the opportunity of a lifetime for you. The newly Indian-owned British marques are looking to fill 600 positions to beef up their engineering staffs that work on emissions performance. We think the new Jaguar XF is one of the sexiest cars to hit the roads in 2008. But what’s hotter than the sleek and beautiful looking four-door-coupe kitty? A faster sleeker and even more beautiful four-door-coupe. Jaguar is almost done working on the XF-R and our friends over at CAR have some very nice shots of the upcoming super-kitty wearing very little cameo.

The future looks bright for Jaguar and Land Rover – but what does it mean for you, the car buyer? Hot on the heels of last week’s £1billion sale to Tata, Auto Express has learned of the marques’ product plans for the next five years. The new strategy, put in place by former owner Ford, will see the Jaguar X-Type axed, a new XJ introduced and a big brother for the Land Rover Freelander launched. These moves play on both brands’ strengths and should help them diversify into new markets.

The deal is finally done – Ford has sold Jaguar and Land Rover to Indian giant Tata for an estimated £1 billion. Following lengthy negotiations that date back to June last year, India’s biggest car manufacturer has secured two of the most famous names in British motoring history. Between them, the two firms employ around 16,000 people at plants in the West Midlands and Merseyside.

As the bidding for Jaguar heads into its final stages, some U.S. dealers are expressing discomfort of an Indian company taking over the luxury brand. According to Ken Gorin, chairman of Jaguar’s national dealer council, dealers feel that an Indian ownership could be an image problem for the customers interested in the luxury brand.
