A rich arab customer paid 30,000 euros to get the oil changed on his Lamborghini Murcielago - not the car’s fault but that of its owner as the vehicle was sent all the way from the Emirates to the London dealership. 25,000 euros was needed for the air delivery, and 5000 euros for repairs. I guess when you can afford a Lamborghini, money isn’t really an object.

Most car enthusiasts know about the Lamborghini Miura, one of the most beautiful and desirable cars from the '60s and '70s, but few know about the one-off Miura Jota and subsequent SV/J models. The Jota was built in 1970 as an experimental car to test new ideas for the upcoming Miura SV. It featured a lightweight body with extra vents, a split sump engine (implemented on later SV models), "Megaphono" exhaust pipes, and a bevy of bespoke features. After the car was finished, it was sold to a loyal customer.

Some things you figure are universal. Like time, for example. But for a tuning house that regularly takes the fastest cars around and tinkers with them just for kicks, time – say, production dates and acceleration numbers – might not hold the same meaning as it does for the rest of us mere mortals.

Automotive news moves fast. Sometimes faster than a Lamborghini supercar, even. Take the Reventon, which by now seems like yesterday's news. But after being revealed back in October 2007, Lamborghini has yet to begin delivering the $1.5 million supercars to their 20 eagerly-awaiting buyers. We would hardly have noticed, waiting for news of one rapped around a pole somewhere, until Lamborghini started announcing the selection of component suppliers for the Reventon.

At well over $700,000 Australian Dollars for the Roadster version of Lamborghini’s big V12 flagship, the Murcielago LP640, it’s fair to say that buyers of this spectacular machine are members of a very exclusive club. But in the world of the stratospherically rich, there are always buyers who quest for even more exclusivity and Lamborghini will build the perfect car for them.

Buy a Lamborghini and be prepared to shell out big bucks... not just for the initial purchase (or the more likely financing arrangement), but for operational costs throughout the lifetime of the vehicle. Even before the warranty runs out, you're looking at big figures for gas, new tires, the inevitable scraped chin spoiler... At least Murcielago buyers have one less upkeep fee to worry about now, as Lamborghini has hammered out a deal with Sirius to provide lifetime subscriptions to its satellite radio service.

With its high-revving engine, excellent four-wheel drive system, improved down force and powerful brakes, the LP560 is more confident around a track than the Gallardo. The suspension has also been tuned and lightened, and is adept at keeping the car stable during high-speed cornering. Body roll is now almost non-existent. Steering the car through the pedals was necessary more than a few times, especially when understeer reared its ugly head. However, these were rare occasions and generally the car was responsive to our steering inputs.

Lamborghini is known for one thing, and one thing only - absurdly fast cars. It's been building them for almost half a century, and it isn't going to let a little thing like global warming get in its way.

Today Lamborghini released a promotional video for its latest bull starring Sam Hubinette taking the car for some sweet drifting around the California. Who is Sam Hubinette? The guy is one of the top names in drifting, a professional race car driver and Hollywood stunt driver. He is also the winner of the Formula D series championship in 2004 and 2006.
