NIGHT workers at Land Rover’s giant Lode Lane headquarters are threatening to strike over new Sunday shifts – throwing parts deliveries into chaos. Up to 100 workers employed by German logistics group DHL are opposing a new Sunday night shift which is being imposed by management from next month, it was revealed today. Workers say Land Rover could “grind to a halt” if the dispute becomes official, with drivers refusing to cross picket lines to deliver vital parts for 4x4 vehicle assembly.

We would argue that not only in the long term is it financially more beneficial to invest now to support Jaguar Land Rover, it is also the right thing to do. If this does not happen what we could see is thousands of people, both at Jaguar Land Rover and in the supply chain, losing their jobs. That is a loss in tax revenue going forward because these workers would pay income tax, they would spend more, which means even more tax revenue. And you would also get more people claiming unemployment benefits, which would be yet another cost to the Exchequer.

Tata, the Indian conglomerate, is poised to hire advisers to help restructure its estimated £2bn debt burden on Jaguar Land Rover. A senior banking source said that "the message from Tata" was that an appointment was likely within three months. However, Tata executives will deal directly with banks on short-term issues, such as relaxing certain covenants, or terms, on the debt.

A UK man has set a record as the first to cross the Bering Strait in a land vehicle. Deciding to tackle the problem in a unique way, Steve Burgess decided that instead of attempting to cross the icebridge that forms across the water in winter, he’d wait for it to melt and float across. That decision took him from the ranks of those who’ve attempted and failed and put him in the record books.

Here's the four wheeled bearded lady of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, courtesy of Kahn Design and (God help us) Cosworth. To us, spending tens of thousands of dollars on a vehicle, then affixing a bodykit to it that would make an '88 Grand Am sneer seems a bit nonsensical. Then again, being of means doesn't always translate into having sense. As if that wasn't enough, even Cosworth hasn't coaxed much out of this abomination. The 3.6-liter diesel V8 gets an extra 30 horsepower, for an even 300.
