Martin Whitmarsh says McLaren are targeting the Hungarian Grand Prix for a return to form. The Woking-based outfit have mustered only 14 points after eight races and Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen have failed to finish in the top eight since the F1 roadshow hit Europe at the end of April. Whitmarsh admits their car isn't suited to some of the European circuits, but hopes there will be an upsurge in their form in Hungary next month.

Donald McLaren and his crew on Sigmatic clinched the overall Sigma 33 Class Championship today at the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series. After winning the class last year on Loch Fyne, Helensburgh’s McLaren had set his sights on the Class Championship, the title which unites both the UK and Ireland. With a consistent pair of second places and a fourth today in the fifteen boat fleet, Sigmatic clinched the overall title with 12 points to spare.

Lewis Hamilton can look forward to next week's Monaco Grand Prix despite McLaren's lack of pace in Spain on Sunday, according to team boss Martin Whitmarsh. Hamilton won in Monaco last year on his way to becoming Formula One's youngest champion but an uncompetitive car has left the 24-year-old Briton with just nine points from the first five races. He battled from last place after the first lap to ninth at the chequered flag at the Circuit de Catalunya in a race dominated by compatriot Jenson Button and his Brawn GP team.

Lewis Hamilton slammed his McLaren car and said it is worse than it was two weeks ago. After his emotional reaction to being honoured by the circuit where he suffered racist abuse a year ago, the world champion's feelings were probably closer to tears after his car's latest modifications failed to work and he ended yesterday a lowly 13th.

Bernie Ecclestone is sure Mercedes-Benz will deem the outcome of Wednesday's World Motor Sport Council ‘fair’. On April 29, the FIA congregation will consider multiple fraud charges levied against McLaren Mercedes amid the 'lie-gate' affair. Last weekend, Mercedes and Daimler chief Dieter Zetsche warned that an ‘unreasonable punishment’ on Wednesday could cause the carmaker to ‘consider our engagement’ in F1. But the signs ever since have strongly indicated that while a penalty for McLaren is likely, the prospect of multiple race bans, huge fines or championship exclusion is not.

Renault’s F1 Roadshow ended its time in Dubai on Sunday evening when Nelson Piquet Jr performed donuts inside the city’s indoor ski slope. Skiers and snowboarders stopped their runs down the slope as the Renault F1 pitcrew fired up the 2008 F1 car at the bottom of the slope at SkiDubai. The car, fitted with studded tyres and piloted by one of Renault’s two drivers taking part in this year’s F1 World Championship, only managed a few brief tricks before burying itself in snow, but it was enough for some spectacular pictures.

In soccer, it is fairly common to see big teams hit rock bottom form when nothing seems to go right. One just has to look at Manchester United's latest outings to understand this. It's much rarer to see this happen in F1, however. From 1998-2008, the sport has been dominated by McLaren and Ferrari (with the exception of Renault in '05 and '06). Normally, Ferrari comes out with an amazing car and McLaren are never far behind. Of course, there are seasons when they fade (McLaren '06, Ferrari '05).

Ferrari, Renault and Red Bull complained about Brawn GP, Toyota and Williams at the season-opening Australian GP but their protest was denied and the diffuser three were cleared to race. The dissenters appealed the decision, however, with the FIA setting aside April 14 for the Court of Appeal hearing in Paris.

Suspended sporting director Dave Ryan left McLaren on Tuesday after a storm caused by the team deliberately misleading Formula One stewards. "He is no longer an employee of any of the constituent companies of the McLaren Group," the team of world champion Lewis Hamilton said in a statement after being charged by the sport's governing body (FIA). The McLaren team are expected to face disciplinary charges after being found guilty of misleading race stewards following the Australian Grand Prix. Obnoxiously over the top is an understated way to describe this Mercedes McLaren SLR dressed head to toe in chrome (including chrome-tinted glass) as it causes a scene outside the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai.

For a while, the McLaren F1 was the fastest car money could buy, powered by a 500kW V12 good for a top speed of 362km/h. With a revival of the icon confirmed to be in the works, renderings have surfaced on a Slovenian website apparently of the next-generation McLaren F1.

Design guru Gordon Murray has released details of his latest project. And it’s the complete opposite of his most famous work – the record-breaking McLaren F1 supercar. Codenamed the T25, the city car is the first model to be developed by his self-titled design company, and the focus here is on lightweight and low emissions.

It's hard not to follow a story like the veritable fleet of new supercars set to follow the controversial Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. The supercar came out of the partnership between Benz and McLaren in Formula One, but while the racing cars have been highly competitive, the SLR has been less so. As a result, Mercedes and McLaren are going their own separate ways for the next generation of high-performance exotica.
