The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has intensified an investigation of 21 GM truck and SUV models manufactured between 2006 and 2008 because of the possibility of an engine compartment fire. More than 2.7 million vehicles are now subject to the investigation, which originally only concerned 400,000 2007 Chevrolet Tahoes and GMC Yukons.

One of London’s most illustrious symbols, the iconic black cab will soon look a bit different as it was announced today that Mercedes-Benz teamed up with EcoCity Vehicles to market a low-emission black cab based on the Vito Traveliner Van. The six-seater taxi version of the Viano that will make its debut on June 26 and go on sale shortly afterwards, will compete against Manganese Bronze’s dominate classic black cab which holds about 93% of London’s taxi market (aprox 22,000 vehicles).

It's hard to think of a way to make the Chrysler Sebring or Jeep Compass even less attractive, but a 2% price increase is a good start. It's not like Chrysler has control over the price of commodities, which is part of what's driving the increase that begins June 16th. Dealers will have to cough up extra cash the next time they replenish their inventories, but whatever's already on the lot will be unaffected.

What do you see when you look at this vehicle? A 4/3-scale Mini Clubman? An overinflated Scion xB? A long wagon? A low minivan? Ford wants you to see a 1986 Taurus, a 1965 Mustang, or a 1956 T-Bird. A design icon. Whether or not you can squint that hard, the new Flex will never sell in numbers like some of those earlier icons, but its sleek, striking design and execution seem likely to propel it to more auspicious sales than the last "game-changing" low-roof three-row Grand Tourer to come down the pike -- Chrysler's Pacifica.

Well, rub your eyes. We are not talking about Rolls Royce Phantom VI but the Rolls Royce Phantom IV. This 'Rolls Royce of Rolls Royce' belonged to Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth II younger sister, Countess of Snowdon is now on sale. The Rolls Royce Phantom IV is labeled as one of the most exclusive Rolls Royce in the world because the public was not allowed to buy this model; it was only sold to the Royalty or a Head of State. A total of 18 examples were made, out of which this went to Princess Margaret in 1954.

Another victim of the downturn in sales of full-size pickup trucks was revealed today as Dodge will be closing its Saltillo plant in northern Mexico for a period of two weeks. The plant produced nearly 170,000 Ram trucks last year. Yesterday, Chrysler CEO Robert Nardelli indicated that Ram production would need to be adjusted to reflect weak customer demand, and this seems to be the adjustment. According to reports, the plant was idled on Monday and its two-thousand workers are set to return to work on June 23.

We did the pre-run, now it was time for Autoblog to race the Baja 500 with driver Chad Hall and Team HUMMER. Our race day start time wasn't until 10:30, but we got to the start line at 8:30. And then we signed autographs and kissed babies. Well, Chad didn't, but people kept asking us for our autograph, so we obliged. Kids also constantly asked for "steeckers," but we didn't have any of those... Follow the jump to see how Autoblog fared as racing co-pilot, and be sure to check out the gallery of hi-res images below and the insane in-truck video after the jump.

Those of you who follow the auto industry as obsessively as we do will immediately recognize the all-new 2009 Ford Flex as the production version of the well-received Ford Fairlane "People Mover" concept from the 2005 Chicago Auto Show. The suicide doors are gone and the front has been opened up a bit to allow the engine to breathe... but Ford's execution from concept to production is, for the most part, dead-on. Ford recently gave us the opportunity to drive the new Flex in Southern California, so follow the jump to read our first impressions of the Blue Oval's new people mover.

A Gas-guzzling Range Rover is the last thing we expected to see at the Sexy Green Car Show in Cornwall – but appearances can be deceptive.
This is a fully electric version of the huge off-roader, a conversion available from Liberty Electric cars. The battery-powered machine costs from £95,000, and promises to be quicker than the V8 petrol model, with a 125-mile range.

Only Honda could create something this practical and make it a reality. Honda has just launched a new minivan called the Freed in Tokyo; a kind of an aggressive looking Fit that adds third row seating fitting 8-people while still being smaller than the Civic.
