Sources out of Japan suggest that Mitsubishi is considering offering a jacked-up version of the Lancer Sportback to international markets in 2010. The new model would come equipped with a higher ride height, a restyled fascia and protective body panels similar to those found on the old Subaru Outback and Audi Allroad.

It comes as no surprise that Mitsubishi will be making a production version of the Concept-cX SUV first shown at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show. The design was well received and will slot right beneath the Outlander in size and price. Equipped with a new 1.8-liter, Euro 5-compliant Clean Diesel four-cylinder turbo engine, the cute 'ute will be the new flag-bearer for Mitsu's green efforts. Borrowing the twin-clutch SST transmission and all-wheel-drive platform from the latest Evo aims to put the 'sport' back in the Sport Utility Vehicle.

According to Greb Migliore, an Autoweek scribe attending the Ralliart's press launch, the Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart will arrive in showrooms this September with a price tag under $27,000. The turbocharged middleweight sedan – aimed squarely at the Subaru WRX – is a clear choice for those that don't want to shill out $40k for its big brother the Evolution X.

Boy racers rejoice! Mitsubishi has announced that the long-awaited MR version of the Lancer Evolution will arrive in American showrooms in June.
The tenth-generation Evo is available in two flavors: base GSR trim, which is already on sale, and now the high-performance MR edition. Both use a turbocharged inline-four cranking out 295 horsepower and have all-wheel-drive, but the MR is fiercer: it sports lighter wheels, stiffer Bilstein shocks, and lightweight two-piece brake rotors.

It’s still amazing to see just how far this car has come. Worlds apart from the doughy, tinny, average Lancer from which it takes its basis, the Evo easily justifies its 170% premium over the parent car. And the thing is it’s 170% better - no questions asked. But the real beauty is that it loses none of the practicality.

There's an old saying, you only want what you can't have. It holds particularly true in the context of Australia's Mitsubishi 380. The vehicle's Adelaide manufacturing facility was recently shuttered, partially due to lack of interest in the six-cylinder sedan.

It looks like tuner Ralliart is downsizing! Mitsubishi’s official performance division has worked its magic on the Colt – and this is the result.
Ralliart is famed for its fire-breathing modifications to sporty cars such as the Lancer Evolution and FTO coupé, but the limited edition Version R Special is based on Mitsubishi’s five-door supermini.

With Tata setting the benchmark for low cost vehicle development with the unveiling of its $2,500 Nano minicar back in January, major carmakers the world over are now playing catch up and furiously developing their own rival models to take advantage of the burgeoning low-cost vehicle market.

Mitsubishi has an admirable performance record with their off-road Pajero Evolution, racking up a record 12 Dakar wins since 1985. Why is the vehicle relevant to the green audience? This year, Mitsubishi has installed a new 260 horsepower three-liter turbo diesel V6 engine, which is a derivative of their previous gas-powered six cylinder engine. Team Repsol Mitsubishi Ralliart considers this new engine part of a green initiative, with the team's new president, Osamu Nakayama, saying, "Our motor sports activity has taken a step up to establish the environmentally-friendly engineering strategy of Mitsubishi Motors."

London's Congestion Charge has drawn ire from some manufacturers, but others are doing something to help alleviate the "financial burden" the charges place on their customers. According to Jim Tyrrell, Mitsubishi's Managing Director, "The vast majority of our customers run a 4x4 for a specific purpose – not simply as a fashion item. We have worked hard to reduce the emissions levels wherever we can to help minimize any negative financial impact on the thousands of businesses that have chosen to use our pick-ups."

The Lancashire Constabulary has ordered four Mitsubishi Outlanders powered by the 2.2 liter diesel engine option for their "rural patrol" vehicles. According to Chris Malkin, Fleet & Transport Manager from Lancashire Constabulary, the Outlander won out due to its "high mpg with low carbon emissions, a reduced environmental impact and low running costs." Malkin also mentioned the Outlander's solid safety scores and high level of standard equipment as reasons that it was chosen.

Here in the good ol' U.S. of A., police cars are usually the largest vehicles available, with full frames and big V8 engines. It seems that something smaller and more economical will do for London's Metropolitan Police. According to their tests, the newest Lancer with the 2.0 liter DI-D diesel engine would perform admirably for police duty, earning a "Class 1 Pass for performance, brake pad wear, handling and localised component durability," according to the report.

Since Mitsubishi first introduced the i concept back in 2003 it has been the subject of much speculation. Would it come to America? Would it be sold in the U.K.? Is it even any good? And that's just the gas version. The electric version, the i MiEV, has caused even more confabulation. Soon we will have our own opportunity to get up close and personal with these little machines when they make their North American debut at the New York International Auto show this coming week.

Mitsubishi’s hatching a plan to launch a cut-price Evo X – and this is how it will look. These are the first official pictures of the Lancer Sportback, which will make its public debut at next week’s Geneva Motor Show. The Japanese firm states the model shown here “closely previews the Lancer Sportback”, but the sporty elements of the design will all feature most prominently on a Ralliart badged hot hatch flagship. At the front, the four-sided Mitsubishi grille gives an aggressive look, while 19-inch wheels hint at the performance on offer. The final production version won’t have the extreme looks of the Evo X, but will offer a cheaper and more practical alternative to the four-door flagship.

Mitsubishi announced ten "design details" of the Lancer Evolution X today. Most of them are somewhat blusterous PR hype (read about Mitsubishi's ETACs in the press release after the jump for a good example), but I thought I'd highlight the three that are focused on efficiency: * The Evolution X is missing a reverse gear. Through an unusual combination of first and third gears with an idler gear on a separate shaft, the transmission is able to reverse motion without the need for a full reverse gear.
