Pontiac's Emergency Financial Manager Fred Leeb is blogging to address rumors and misinformation about spending and hiring, as well as to keep residents informed about city business. The blog, called Hello Pontiac, debuted May 21 and addresses topics such as extending a final offer of sale of the Silverdome to current bidders and the reinstatement of televised council meetings. Residents complained about Leeb canceling the airings in April because he said they spread negativity.

Pontiac dealers knew one thing was certain after General Motors Corp.'s announcement Monday made the iconic brand's demise official: The vultures would soon be out. "We went through it a few years ago with Oldsmobile," said George Fowler, general manager of Superior Pontiac-Buick-GMC in Dearborn. "People want that big deal." Buyers may hope for the bargain of the century on Pontiacs and other doomed GM brands -- including Saturn -- but experts say such expectations shouldn't run too high, at least for now.

Citing growing need, Planned Parenthood of Mid and South Michigan plans to open a clinic in or near Pontiac by the end of 2009 — the first in Oakland County in several years. Lori Lamerand, president and CEO of the Mid and South Michigan chapter, said today that there had been a clinic in Pontiac five or six years ago, but it closed. But the announcement — initially made Monday at the chapter’s annual fund-raising luncheon in Troy — means women in the Pontiac area seeking low-cost birth control and gynecological services will have an option closer to home.

General Motors Corp. may be forced to shed more brands as it scrambles to avoid bankruptcy protection ahead of a May 31 U.S. government deadline. As recently as Feb. 17, the automaker was still working toward narrowing its lineup to four marques -- Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC -- as part of efforts to restructure with US$13.4-billion in U.S. government loans. But certain officials are now said to view GMC as expendable. Pontiac, which GM had said it would turn into a niche brand, could simply be shut down.

The ROUSH 2010 427R Mustang will be the first in the lineup of new ROUSH 2010 Mustangs to have a ROUSHcharger installed which boosts the horsepower to 435 and offers 400 lb.-ft. of torque. This is the first time that ROUSH has been able to offer a supercharged vehicle at the launch of a new body style. Under the hood customers will see many differences in the ROUSH 2010 427R Mustang compared to previous years. One of the biggest changes is that the long air induction tube that wrapped around the engine was eliminated making a much cleaner appearance under the hood.

A 28-year-old Pontiac woman was arrested on assault charges after police say she cut another woman with a knife after a brawl in a Pontiac elementary school parking lot Monday. Students were just leaving Whitmer Human Resources Center, 60 Parkhurst, at 3:45 p.m. Monday when a 39-year-old Pontiac resident confronted the 28-year-old, Pontiac Police Sgt. Kevin Braddock said. The two women both have children with the same man, and the 39-year-old accused the 28-year-old of leaving a note on her car. Both women had children with them during the fight, he added.

It has been a rough month in the auto industry. Scratch that, it has been a tough year. This month saw the demise of several automotive magazines starting with import tuning OG, “Turbo Magazine.” This was quickly followed by one of my favorites, “Sports Car International” from Ross Publications.

The motor of the Pontiac Fiero EV is not all you’ll need to replace, you would have to add in a series of lead acid flooded batteries. Battery weight can make the suspension ride lower. Installation of spring over shocks with an increase in the spring rate can help accommodate the extra weight. However, this means getting rid of the front suspension arms, trading them out for powder coated tubular arms on which the spring over shock can be mounted.

Pontiac has suffered in the past becuase of its ties with General Motors’ other subsidiaries, giving the brand a mixed image. On one hand, it offers sporty, RWD vehicles such as the Pontiac G8 and the 2009 Solstice Coupe (pictured), and on the other hand it often borrows vehicles from its sister brand Chevrolet to bolster its lineup - including the relatively non-sporty Chevrolet Aveo, which is rebirthed into the Pontiac G3.

If you like horsepower, speed and a usable back seat, the Pontiac G8 GT was a great deal with an MSRP of $29,995. In fact, Pontiac advertised the 2008 model as just such a bargain: "Most powerful car starting under $30K," which is riding the line pretty close.

Pontiac's return to General Motors' performance division may be underway with the upcoming launch of the G8, but the brand's performance revival could stall after the car's introduction. GM announced at a dealer meeting this week that stricter CAFE regulations has the Detroit-based automaker reconsidering Pontiac's future. While Chevrolet dealers will soon get the all new Camaro, Pontiac dealers will not get a version of the car in the form of a Trans Am. Buick, Pontiac and GMC dealers — which are usually housed under one roof — were hoping to get a version of the Camaro to serve as a halo vehicle and drive traffic into dealerships.
