We've been following the developments of Renault's revival of the Alpine marque since earlier this year, and its been confirmed that the first of several new models will debut sometime in 2010. From the beginning, Renault made it clear that Alpine would benefit from dedicated models, rather than rebadged or re-engineered Renaults.

While most of our recent hot hatch affection has been aimed at the Ford Focus RS, Renault brought its own racy three-door to the London Motor Show party, and now we're torn. Admittedly, the Focus RS is easily the more suitable day-to-day driver – it's got a full interior and air conditioning -- but the Renaultsport Megane R26.R has all the kit for a serious track-day assault. Hell, it even has two Rs in its name.

If you're in France, the phrase caveat emptor can probably be joined by caveat reporter after police raided the French magazine Auto Plus. The po-po were called last August to begin an investigation because the magazine published detailed photos of the coming Renault Megane, which Renault said wasn't supposed to hit showrooms for another three years. The raid was the next step in the Sherlock Holmes treatment.

Who wants to go 250+ mpg? Volkswagen thinks you might, and so is still working on a one-liter car, maybe for launch in 2010. Cockpit-style seating, anyone? Meanwhile, Hawaii will spend $50,000 on electric vehicle research. As we've said for a long time, the islands are an ideal laboratory for EVs. Less perfect are the NEV laws around the country, as one person in Colorado found out. Oh, and don't miss the new Mustang hybrid. Seriously.

New Dacia Logan will be introduced across the majority of Western European markets from July 2008. In most cases, its entry level price remains unchanged, making it a more appealing proposition than ever. New Dacia Logan stands out as a modern saloon with more contemporary exterior lines which reflect its robust, quality build. The grille, which first appeared on Dacia Sandero, is bigger and features the brand's new logo, plus a chrome upper trim as standard (except entry level version).

There's no need to haggle with Renault. It’s promising a no-quibble, no-discount policy when it launches its Dacia budget brand in the UK next year. The firm says the Dacia Sandero hatchback will start at “well under” £7,000 – and that’s as low as it can go.

The distinct rhombus-shaped shadow underneath the disguise tape tells us this is the new Renault Megane hatchback, preparing for battle with rivals like the Peugeot 308, Kia Cee'd and forthcoming Golf MkVI.

From the pages of Ecoblog.it appears news on a new concept car fuel cell created by Renault and Nissan to demonstrate the technology being studied for upcoming models. The Grand Scenic ZEV H2 has a fuel cell system entirely created by Nissan, while Renault technicians are working on transforming the original Scenic to accommodate the new electronic and technical apparatus required without reducing passenger space.

With the Monaco Grand Prix and the Cannes Film Festival both taking place this weekend on the shores of the Mediterranean, Renault chose the latter as the backdrop for its latest model unveiling. The new Laguna Coupe is getting a preview amongst the stars of Cannes with a stylish new look that gets away from some of the downright bizarre hindquarters of some recent Renaults. Along with the midsized coupe, the French automaker is revealing a pair of new V6 engines fueled by gasoline and diese.
