In this down economy — where some automakers are asking for government bailouts — you might wonder: How are companies like Rolls-Royce doing? The answer is: Rolls-Royce sales are down, too, but only a bit. In February 2009, the company sold 36 cars in the United States. Last February, it sold 37. That's the sort of downturn a lot of luxury car companies could live with. Bentley sales, for example, dropped from 231 cars in February 2008 to 69 last month. Lambor- ghini sales dropped from 84 to 70, and Ferrari sales dropped from 135 to 90.

The Spirit of Ecstasy has landed –and this time it’s in seventh heaven! These are the first official sketches of the new entry-level Rolls Royce, due to arrive in 2010. It’s based on the 7-Series saloon of parent firm BMW, and uses the same chassis and drivetrain. As a result, the price of the newcomer – which is named RR4 – can be ‘kept down’ to £175,000, around £95,000 less than the range-topping Phantom.

Here's a car maker that’s on a roll! It’s one of the most expensive new models built in the UK, but the Rolls-Royce Coupé has been such a hit, the entire production quota for the year has been sold in a week. The firm has announced that 200 examples of its £275,000 two-door have now been ordered, only seven days after it officially went on sale. That means no further cars will be available before 2009.
