Porsche and Suzuki rarely come up in the same breath, but here is something they both share: neither will be in Cobo Hall when the Detroit Auto Show opens in January. Joining the Stuttgart sportscar/SUV/SUS maker in skipping the show, Suzuki has said that they are pulling out for a slightly different reason. Whereas Porsche had said that Detroit wasn't a very important market for them, Suzuki is saying they didn't like the space they were offered. Here, Suzuki is hitting closer to what many people feel is the real problem with Cobo, there just isn't enough room.

Although it is undoubtedly toned down a bit, Suzuki has been able to create what appears to be a nearly production-ready version of the A-Star concept it showed at the last New Delhi Motor Show just six months ago.

It's in the bag, but under the heavy disguise it’s Suzuki’s exciting new Kizashi family car. Our spies caught the Japanese firm’s Ford Mondeo rival testing before its debut next year. Despite all the padding, it’s possible to see that the newcomer features the same low, sweeping roofline as Suzuki’s Kizashi 3 concept car, which starred on its world debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January.

While we haven't driven the boosted Suzuki SX4t, we hear it's a scream. So when we caught wind of a special edition SX4 inspired by the automaker's participation in the World Rally Championship, our happy balloon was on its way to reaching capacity. It deflated quickly. No, the SX4 WRC isn't turbocharged, doesn't have any trick all-wheel-drive programming and is little more than a wannabe racer of the lamest variety. Think the OZ-edition Mitsubishi Lancer, but with half the cred and none of the good stuff.

While it’s only known for its tiny cars, motorcycles and its compact SUVs, Suzuki is now getting serious about larger cars and will be taking on Toyota’s Camry and Honda’s Accord as early as next year. According to CARandDRIVER, the Suzuki Kizashi 3 concept based mid-size sedan will arrive in late 2009 as a 2010 model year.

Last month, motorcycle racing Team Alstare Suzuki started talking about biofuels and small engines. In collaboration with Spanish company Globasol Energías Renovables, Alstare's Belgian development center's first stab at biofuel powered vehicles resulted in an ATV which was able to run on ethanol blends. At that time, the team suggested that it was at work on a few more projects, notably an E60-powered motorcycle and small biodiesel engines. Read the rest of this entry »

Suzuki is moving swiftly upmarket with a saloon version of its popular hatchback. Despite the strikingly different looks, the Swift Dzire only sports two major changes. Up front there’s a new grille, but most noticeable is, of course, the radically restyled rear.

Last Spring, when Suzuki and Intelligent Energy announced their partnership, we wondered out loud if fuel cell powered-motorcycles were in the offing. What we got was a very cool concept bike at the Tokyo Motor Show called the Suzuki Crosscage, which did in fact use IE's Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) technology. The bike was clearly just a concept, though.

Suzuki had an all-star cast on show at Geneva. With the all-new Splash supermini and Kizashi concepts taking the supporting roles, the Concept A-Star took the lead. The tiny city car previews the firm’s next world model, which goes into production with Maruti Suzuki in India later this year. It features an efficient new 1.0-litre petrol engine capable of super-low CO2 emissions – lower than 109g/km. Smart details include the A-Star’s distinctive grille and unusual front and rear light clusters. Inside, the five-door model features mood lighting to create the feeling of space.

Most carmakers are rushing to launch new models in the burgeoning crossover and lifestyle vehicle segments but Suzuki still sees significant room for growth in the crowded and competitive midsize sedan market. The carmaker rolled out two new sedan concepts in the past six months, the previous Kizashi 1 and Kizashi 2 concepts, and is now planning a third variant for the upcoming New York Auto Show.

We know Suzuki for its top-value small cars, but if you like two-wheeled transport, you will also be familiar with its superbikes. In an effort to combine the two, the firm has created the SXForce.Based on the four-wheel-drive SX4 supermini, it drew the crowds at the Detroit Motor Show with its innovative interior controls (above) – handlebars borrowed from a motorbike! The basic dashboard has a central rev counter and is finished with carbon fibre inserts, while the seat trim is inspired by motorcycle leathers. The SXForce is powered by a 250bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged engine.

Corsa’s recalled over steering fear A second safety recall in as many months has been announced on the Vauxhall Corsa. The last one affected the car’s ABS. But this time, 6,086 models are being called back to have a new steering shaft fitted as there’s a risk owners may lose steering control. Proton has also been forced to hand out replacement jacks to 5,245 UK owners of its Gen2 and Satria Neo.
Cover is blown on ultra-green cabrio The sky is the limit for Loremo, the ultra-efficient German car maker. It has released sketches of an open-top model, set to debut at March’s Geneva Motor Show.
